Levels of Care

What is a Partial Hospitalization Program?

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a level of care that falls between residential treatment and intensive outpatient/ outpatient treatment. Our Partial hospitalization programs include individual, family, and group counseling and medication management.

The most notable difference between the Partial Hospitalization Program and residential treatment is that individuals do not live in treatment centers but rather attend programs during the day and return home each night, no longer requiring 24-hour supervision.

Clients can benefit from much of the same structure that they would receive in residential treatment throughout the day and the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they’ve learned in treatment in their daily lives.

What to Expect From a Partial Hospitalization Program

Partial hospitalization programs are usually available five days a week for six hours daily. In most cases, the patient’s personal needs determine the number of visits required. When a treatment team feels that a client is ready to progress to the next level of care, the recommendation is frequently to reduce the program’s intensity to Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP).

Some activities involved in Partial Hospitalization programs also include:

  • Medical support
  • Mental health counseling
  • Mental health education
  • Life skills training
  • Access to indoor and outdoor amenities

Several types of therapy, including traditional and
holistic options

Partial Hospitalization Programs provide the most significant degree of care without hospitalization. They can be used as the first step in therapy or as a bridge between inpatient and outpatient programs. Services for partial hospitalization are best suited for:

  • Patients who have reached a point in their treatment when they can be discharged from the hospital.
  • People who require intensive care but do not pose a risk to themselves or others and do not require hospitalization.

A therapist can assist you in determining whether or not a partial hospitalization program is the right treatment option for you or a loved one.

The following are the main components of a partial hospitalization program:
