What is a Partial Hospitalization Program?
A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a mental health treatment located on the mental health continuum between residential treatment and intensive outpatient or outpatient treatment. Partial hospitalization programs frequently include individual, family, and group counseling and medication management.
The most notable difference between the Partial Hospitalization Program and residential treatment is that individuals do not live in treatment centers but rather attend programs during the day and return home because they no longer require 24-hour supervision. Clients can benefit from much of the same structure that they would receive in residential treatment throughout the day and the opportunity to begin exercising their acquired abilities as they prepare to exit the treatment program.
